Jessica Zoob At The Society of Women Artists Summer Exhibition 2017

Jun 28, 2017

I am delighted to have two of my oil paintings at The Society Of Women Artists 156th Annual Summer Exhibition.

To be selected and included in an all female artist line up at the prestigious Mall Galleries is so exciting.  The Society has enjoyed Royal patronage since 1865 and the current patron HRH Princess Michael of Kent will be opening the exhibition at a private view Wednesday July 5th before this London Art Exhibition opens to the public Thursday July 6th to Sunday July 9th.

“Art is often about pushing out the boundaries and I am in great favour of grasping the nettle in our search for innovation” –  SWA President Sue Jelley “

I am looking forward to seeing a diverse range of paintings, sculptures and printmaking at the exhibition and all created by women artists!

Art is dominated by male artists and an article in the Guardian this year stated “female artists account for just 35% of Tate Modern’s collections. ” and figures compiled by the Guardian over the last decade also highlight this imbalance with statistics of how this is perpetuated by some of biggest commercial galleries that operate in the UK and internationally.

However, in the British and International art world a shift may be occurring. This year, Maria Balshaw was appointed the first female director of the Tate Galleries and Frances Morris director of the Tate Modern in 2015. Frances Morris has long championed female artists so it’s no coincidence that all her recent exhibitions have been of women.

If you are in London next week then do visit The Society of Women Artists Summer Exhibition 2017. The Mall Galleries are just off Trafalgar Square and provide an air conditioned oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle of London. There is a lovely cafe for coffee or lunch too. All the information about this London Art Exhibition here.
